The VIOFO A229 Pro 2CH is a two-channel dash cam that records 4K (3840×2160) at 30fps from the front and 2K (2560×1440) at 30fps from the rear, with Sony STARVIS 2 sensors on both channels and simultaneous HDR processing front and rear. The front camera uses the Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 (1/1.8-inch, 8MP); the rear uses the Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 (1/2.8-inch, 5MP). A front CPL-200 filter, GPS mount, rear camera, and car charger are included in the box; a microSD card and hardwire kit are sold separately.

Dual Sony STARVIS 2 Sensors With HDR on Both Channels

Most dual dash cams apply HDR to the front channel only, leaving rear footage to struggle with headlights and tunnel exits. The A229 Pro 2CH runs HDR simultaneously on both the 4K front and 2K rear channels, so license plates behind the vehicle stay legible even when headlights or sun glare are directly in frame. The front IMX678 sensor's 1/1.8-inch size captures approximately 2.5 times more dynamic range than first-generation STARVIS in a single exposure, which translates to less blown-out sky and more readable shadow detail in the same frame.

Quad-Mode GPS, 5GHz Wi-Fi, and Voice Control Built In

The A229 Pro 2CH includes a built-in Quad-Mode GPS module that logs position, speed, and route data using GPS, BeiDou, Galileo, and GLONASS simultaneously. That four-system lock improves fix speed and accuracy in urban canyons and areas with limited sky view. Footage playback in the VIOFO app overlays the GPS track on a map, so a specific clip can be matched to a location without manual note-taking.

The A229 Pro 2CH's built-in 5GHz Wi-Fi allows video preview and download to a phone without removing the card. Voice control supports 12 commands in English, Chinese, Russian, and Japanese, covering photo capture, footage lock, and Wi-Fi toggle, so the driver can act on an event without taking hands off the wheel.

Three Parking Modes and an Expandable Channel Architecture

With the HK4 hardwire kit (sold separately), the A229 Pro 2CH supports three parking modes: buffered Auto Event Detection, which saves 15 seconds before and 30 seconds after a detected impact; Time-Lapse recording at selectable frame rates (1, 2, 3, 5, or 10fps); and Low Bit Rate continuous recording. Impact-triggered clips are automatically locked against loop-recording overwrite. The HK4 does not include fuse taps; those must be purchased separately for the specific vehicle.

The 2CH configuration is expandable: adding the optional A229 Pro interior camera module upgrades the system to three-channel recording (4K front + 2K rear + 1080P interior) with no firmware changes required. The rear camera can also be swapped for an optional telephoto (RTC300) or waterproof rear camera (RWC200) on the same front unit. All three channels record at 30fps in the 3-channel configuration.

Who This Is For and Isn't

The A229 Pro 2CH suits drivers who want 4K front and 2K rear coverage with simultaneous dual-channel HDR, built-in GPS route logging, and the option to expand to a third interior channel later without replacing the front unit. It is a strong fit for overlanding and long-distance travel where GPS track logging and reliable low-light rear coverage matter.

The A229 Pro 2CH does not include a microSD card, hardwire kit, or fuse taps; all three must be purchased separately before parking mode is functional. Accessories from the A229 Duo (GPS mount, rear camera, interior camera) are not compatible with the A229 Pro; the Duo's microphone port has been repurposed as the interior camera connector on the Pro. The rear CPL-300 filter is also sold separately.

Common Questions

What is included in the box with the A229 Pro 2CH?

The A229 Pro 2CH ships with the front camera and GPS mount, rear camera, 3.5m car charger, 6m rear camera cable, 0.5m USB Type-C data cable, front CPL-200 filter, spare mount sticky pads, windshield static stickers, trim removal tool, warning sticker, and user manual. A microSD card and hardwire kit are not included and must be purchased separately.

Does the A229 Pro 2CH require a memory card, and what size is supported?

The A229 Pro 2CH does not include a microSD card. The camera supports cards up to 512GB. A high-endurance card rated for continuous write cycles is strongly recommended; standard consumer cards may fail prematurely under the sustained write load of continuous dash cam recording.

How does parking mode work, and what hardware is required?

The A229 Pro 2CH supports three parking modes: buffered Auto Event Detection (saves 15 seconds before and 30 seconds after a detected impact), Time-Lapse, and Low Bit Rate continuous recording. Parking mode requires the HK4 hardwire kit, sold separately. The HK4 does not include fuse taps; those must be sourced separately for the specific vehicle.

Can the A229 Pro 2CH be upgraded to three channels later?

The A229 Pro 2CH can be expanded to three-channel recording by adding the optional A229 Pro interior camera module, which upgrades the system to 4K front + 2K rear + 1080P interior. The interior camera is detected automatically with no firmware changes required. All three channels record at 30fps in the 3-channel configuration.

Are accessories from the A229 Duo compatible with the A229 Pro?

No. The A229 Pro uses a Quad-Mode GPS module with a mount that is not compatible with the A229 Duo's GPS mount. The rear and interior cameras are also incompatible between the Duo and Pro models. The microphone port present on the Duo has been repurposed as the interior camera connector on the A229 Pro, so Duo accessories cannot be reused.
