The Sea to Summit Pursuit is a self-inflating three-season sleeping pad built for backpackers, trekkers, and paddle tourers who need reliable insulation and packable comfort without sacrificing weight. Its ASTM-tested R-Value of 3.0 and 5 cm / 2 in Horizontal Delta Coring construction deliver foam-supported comfort in a compact, trail-ready package. The Pursuit is available in four size-and-shape combinations: Regular Contour, Regular Rectangular Wide, Large Contour, and Large Rectangular Wide.
Comfort Without the Weight Penalty
Horizontal Delta Coring removes 40% of the foam from the pad's interior, leaving delta-shaped cores that create air-filled channels running the length of the mat. Those channels cushion pressure points the way a thicker pad would, while keeping the Pursuit's packed volume and weight close to those of an air pad. For a backpacker counting grams, that translates to 5 cm of genuine support without the bulk of a conventional foam mat. The self-inflating construction also stays quiet through the night, so repositioning does not disturb a tent partner.
Fast Setup, Faster Breakdown
The XPEL Multi Function Valve integrates inflate, fine-tune, and deflate functions into one low-profile unit. Flipping the valve converts it from a one-way inflate port to a one-way deflate port, which prevents the pad from drawing air back in as it is rolled up, saving meaningful time at the end of a long day on trail. The side-loading stuff sack works with the valve to make packing straightforward even in a cramped tent vestibule. A couple of breaths through the valve top up the self-inflated pad to full operating pressure.
Recycled, bluesign-Approved Shell
The Pursuit's 20-denier shell is made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester, certified to the Recycled Claim Standard and approved by bluesign. Solution dyeing adds color to the polymer before the fiber is extruded, reducing water and energy use compared to conventional dyeing and producing a color that runs throughout the yarn rather than sitting on the surface. The fabric is non-PFAS. The Pursuit is part of Sea to Summit's 1% for the Planet commitment.

Who This Is For and Isn't
The Pursuit suits backpackers, trekkers, and paddle tourers who need a quiet, stable, self-inflating pad for three-season use across spring, summer, and fall. The Contour shape works well for side sleepers and those who shift positions during the night; the Rectangular Wide provides extra width for sleepers who want more room to spread out.
The Pursuit's ASTM-tested R-Value of 3.0 is rated for three-season conditions and is not designed for winter or extreme-cold camping. Campers who prioritize maximum cushioning over weight savings may find the Pursuit Plus, which is 7.5 cm thick, a better match.
Common Questions
Does the Pursuit pad self-inflate on its own, or do I need to blow it up?
The Pursuit has a foam core that draws itself full of air when the XPEL Valve is opened, so no pumping is required for the initial fill. Adding a couple of breaths through the valve brings the pad to full operating pressure. If you prefer to use a pump, the Airstream Pumpsack fits the XPEL Valve and is sold separately.
Which pump is compatible with the Pursuit's XPEL Valve?
The Pursuit uses Sea to Summit's XPEL Multi Function Valve. The Airstream Pumpsack is compatible with the XPEL Valve for topping up the self-inflated pad without breath inflation. The Airstream Pumpsack is sold separately and is not included with the Pursuit.
Will the Regular Rectangular Wide fit inside a sleeping bag that has a pad sleeve on the bottom?
The Regular Rectangular Pursuit measures 64 cm / 25 in wide. Whether it fits a sleeping bag's pad sleeve depends on that bag's specific sleeve dimensions, so measuring your sleeping bag before purchasing is recommended.
How does the Pursuit compare to the Pursuit Plus?
The Pursuit is 5 cm thick with an ASTM-tested R-Value of 3.0, making it the lighter, more packable choice for three-season backpacking. The Pursuit Plus is 7.5 cm thick and provides more cushioning and insulation. The Pursuit is the better fit when pack weight is the priority; the Pursuit Plus suits those for whom comfort and warmth matter more than weight savings.
