The Sea to Summit Evac Lightweight Compression Dry Bag is a waterproof compression dry bag built for bikepacking, sea kayaking, and any activity where keeping gear dry and compact matters. The eVac air-permeable base lets you push air out without a purge valve, while the PU-coated 70D recycled nylon body holds a 10,000mm hydrostatic head rating. Five sizes are available (5L, 8L, 13L, 20L, and 35L) in Turkish Tile and High Rise colorways.

No Purge Valve, No Problem

The eVac fabric base is a waterproof laminate that is also air-permeable: squeeze the bag and air escapes through the base, but water cannot enter. That eliminates the purge valve found on conventional compression dry bags, a component that adds weight, adds complexity, and can be accidentally left open. The result is a bag that compresses reliably every time without any extra steps or parts to manage in the field.

Waterproof Construction You Can Trust

The main body is bluesign-approved, pre-consumer recycled 70D nylon with a PU inner coating rated to 10,000mm hydrostatic head and a non-PFAS DWR finish on the outer face. Seams are double-stitched and tape-sealed. The Hypalon roll-top closure is non-wicking and secured with Sea to Summit's Field Repair Buckle, a patented closure designed to be repairable in the field if the buckle is ever damaged. Together these layers mean the bag's body resists water reliably across paddle sports, wet trails, and rain-soaked camps.

Even Compression, Easy Access

Four compression straps (two ladderlock and two side-release buckles) let you apply even pressure across the bag's circumference, preventing the uneven bulging that makes a compressed bag hard to fit into a pack or dry box. A nylon webbing handle on the oval base gives a secure grab point when the bag is fully loaded. The white interior coating reflects light back into the bag, making it easier to spot a specific piece of gear without unpacking everything.

Features

  • 10,000mm hydrostatic head: PU-coated recycled 70D nylon body with tape-sealed, double-stitched seams
  • Non-PFAS DWR finish: bluesign-approved recycled nylon with C0 non-PFC treatment on both fabrics
  • Field Repair Buckle: patented Hypalon roll-top closure that is non-wicking and repairable in the field
  • Four compression straps: two ladderlock and two side-release buckles for even, bulge-free compression
  • White interior coating: light-reflecting lining makes locating gear inside easier

Who This Is For and Isn't

The Evac Lightweight Compression Dry Bag suits backpackers, bikepackers, and paddlers who need to compress sleeping bags, insulated clothing, or other soft gear while keeping it dry. The range of sizes, 5L through 35L, makes it useful as a modular packing system inside a larger pack or dry box.

The bag's body is waterproof to 10,000mm hydrostatic head, but the roll-top closure is not rated for submersion: water can seep through under sustained immersion. The bag is not suited for use around sharp objects or abrasive surfaces, which can damage the nylon fabric.

Common Questions

Is the Evac Compression Dry Bag waterproof?

The body of the Evac Compression Dry Bag is waterproof, rated to a 10,000mm hydrostatic head with PU-coated 70D nylon and tape-sealed seams. The roll-top closure is not rated for submersion: water can seep through the closure of any roll-top dry bag under sustained immersion, so avoid submerging the bag.

Does the eVac base replace a purge valve?

The eVac base is an air-permeable, waterproof laminate that lets air escape when you squeeze the bag, eliminating the need for a separate purge valve. Because the laminate blocks water from entering through the base, the Evac Compression Dry Bag compresses gear without the added weight or failure risk of a valve.

Is this bag suitable for paddle sports?

The Evac Compression Dry Bag's 70D nylon construction is well suited to paddle sports including sea kayaking. Take care around sharp objects or abrasive surfaces, which can damage the fabric, and avoid prolonged submersion since the roll-top closure is not rated for it.

How does the Evac Compression Dry Bag work for packing a backpack?

The Evac Compression Dry Bag works well for modular packing. Squeeze the air out through the eVac base, then fit the compressed bag into a tight space in your pack before the bag can draw air back in. It is particularly effective with sleeping bags and insulated clothing, which compress significantly and take up less volume when packed this way.

What compression hardware does the bag use?

The Evac Compression Dry Bag uses four compression straps: two with ladderlock buckles and two with side-release buckles positioned on the sides for easy access. This arrangement lets you apply even pressure around the bag's circumference, preventing the uneven bulging that makes a compressed bag difficult to fit into a pack or storage compartment.
