The Sea to Summit Breeze Insect Shield Sleeping Bag Liner is a lightweight travel and backpacking liner made from a 70% COOLMAX EcoMade / 30% TENCEL Lyocell knit blend, treated with Insect Shield permethrin for protection against mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, and flies. The stretchy knit fits mummy and rectangular sleeping bags alike and packs to roughly the size of a large fist. Four sizes are available: Short, Regular, Long, and a Rectangular with Pillow Sleeve variant suited to travel and hostel use.

Insect Protection That Lasts

The Breeze liner is treated with Insect Shield, a patented permethrin formula bonded to the fabric. Unlike topical sprays that wash off after one or two cycles, the Insect Shield treatment remains effective for at least 25 wash cycles and, when stored correctly, can remain effective for several years. For backpackers and cycle tourists moving through tick or mosquito country, that durability means the liner keeps working trip after trip without reapplication. The treatment is odorless in use.

Moisture Control on Warm Nights

COOLMAX EcoMade fiber (made from 100% recycled resources) uses channeled fiber construction to pull moisture away from skin and move it toward the liner's surface, where it evaporates. The 30% TENCEL Lyocell component adds next-to-skin softness and supports temperature regulation. Together they prevent the sweaty, clammy feeling that plagues warm-weather camping in a closed sleeping bag. The knitted structure also traps more insulating air than woven liners, adding a small amount of warmth when used inside a bag on cooler nights.

Low-Impact Build That Extends Your Sleeping Bag's Life

The Breeze liner is constructed with bluesign APPROVED and lower-impact certified recycled materials. HeiQ Fresh FFL odor control (a biocide-free amino sugar polymer treatment) absorbs and neutralizes body odor during use, then releases odor-causing compounds during washing so the polymer refreshes for the next trip. Because the liner takes the brunt of nightly skin contact and perspiration, washing the liner instead of the sleeping bag preserves the bag's loft and extends its usable life.

Who This Is For and Isn't

The Breeze Insect Shield liner suits backpackers, cycle tourists, and paddle tourers who camp in warm conditions or insect-prone environments and want a liner that manages moisture, controls odor, and provides lasting insect protection without reapplying spray. The Rectangular with Pillow Sleeve variant is a strong choice for hostel and hotel travel where a clean, personal sleep surface matters.

The Breeze liner does not actively lower body temperature. It prevents a clammy feeling but will not cool a hot sleeper the way ventilation or a lower-rated bag would. It adds only a small amount of warmth and is not designed as a standalone cold-weather sleep system. Fabric softeners and dryer sheets degrade the COOLMAX wicking performance and should not be used when laundering this liner.

Common Questions

Can the Breeze Insect Shield liner be machine washed?

The Breeze Insect Shield liner is machine washable with standard detergent. Fabric softeners reduce the COOLMAX wicking performance and should be avoided. Machine dry on a cool or low setting without dryer sheets, or air dry.

Does the Breeze liner keep you cool?

The Breeze liner uses COOLMAX fibers that wick moisture away from skin effectively. It does not actively lower body temperature, but it prevents the sweaty or clammy feeling that builds up in humid conditions inside a sleeping bag.

How does HeiQ Fresh odor control work?

The Breeze liner is treated with HeiQ Fresh FFL, a biocide-free odor control technology using bio-based amino sugar polymers. The polymers absorb and neutralize odors during use. When the liner is washed, odor-causing compounds are released and the polymer refreshes, restoring odor control for the next use.

Does the Breeze liner add warmth to a sleeping bag?

The Breeze Insect Shield liner adds a small amount of warmth when used inside a sleeping bag. Any additional layer traps insulating air, and the knitted structure of the Breeze traps more air than woven liners, providing a modest warmth boost without significantly increasing packed weight.

How long does the Insect Shield treatment last?

The Insect Shield permethrin treatment on the Breeze liner remains effective for at least 25 wash cycles. When stored correctly between trips, the treatment can remain effective for several years.
