The ICON V.S. 2.5 Series Remote Reservoir Front Coilover Kit is a bolt-on front suspension upgrade for the 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD and Prerunner, offering 0–3 inches of lift height adjustability through a 2.5-inch shock body with an external reservoir. This kit fits the 4WD and Prerunner configurations only; see fitment notes for the 2WD exclusion.

Shipping: ICON parts ship direct from ICON Vehicle Dynamics, mostly by UPS Ground. Lead times vary by part and some items are built to order, so please allow extra time. We email tracking as soon as your order ships.

Larger Shock Body, More Damping Headroom

The 2.5-inch shock body provides greater piston area than stock components, which translates directly to improved damping ability across varying terrain. A larger piston sweeps more fluid per stroke, giving the shock more authority to control body motion on rough trails and broken pavement alike. The 7/8-inch induction-hardened, chrome-plated shaft and CAD-plated shock body resist corrosion through seasons of use without requiring protective covers or frequent service.

Remote Reservoir for Sustained Performance

The external reservoir increases fluid volume, which extends the duration of consistent damping before heat-induced fade sets in. During extended off-road use (repeated hard compressions on a trail or a long washboard run), the reservoir keeps operating temperature lower than a conventional shock body alone. ICON's vehicle-specific valving is tuned for a sport feel both on-road and off, so the improvement in fade resistance does not come at the cost of everyday ride quality.

Adjustable Lift and Bolt-On Installation

The coilover collar adjusts ride height across the full 0–3-inch range, letting the builder dial in the exact lift needed for a chosen wheel and tire combination without swapping springs. ICON engineers the coil springs as part of the system, and a 700 lb/in expedition spring is available separately for heavier-equipped vehicles. Installation requires no cutting or welding. Lift heights stated are for a stock-equipped vehicle; a bump stop spacer kit is available separately to increase threads showing beyond the maximum recommendation.

Features

  • 2.5" shock body: increased piston area over stock for improved damping control
  • Remote reservoir: extends consistent damping duration and reduces operating temperature during heavy use
  • 0–3" lift adjustability: coilover collar allows on-vehicle ride-height tuning
  • 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum CNC components: machined for precision fit and reduced weight
  • FK rod end bearings: extended longevity and minimal deflection under load
  • 100% bolt-on: no cutting or welding required for installation
  • Fully serviceable shocks: can be rebuilt rather than replaced

Who This Is For and Isn't

This coilover kit suits 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD and Prerunner owners who want a bolt-on front suspension upgrade with 0–3 inches of lift adjustability, improved damping over stock, and the ability to run aftermarket wheels and tires up to 33×11.50" without fender modification.

This kit does not fit 2WD Tacoma models with 5 wheel lug studs. It covers the front suspension only; rear performance will require separate rear shocks. Tires larger than 33×11.50" may require fender trimming and additional modifications. Lift heights are calibrated for a stock-equipped vehicle; heavily loaded or accessorized builds may need the separately available 700 lb/in expedition coil spring or bump stop spacer kit.

Common Questions

Will this kit fit a 2WD Tacoma?

The ICON V.S. 2.5 Series Front Coilover Kit does not fit 2WD Tacoma models with 5 wheel lug studs. It is designed specifically for the 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD and Prerunner configurations only.

Does this kit cover both front and rear shocks?

This kit covers the front suspension only. For balanced vehicle control, ICON recommends pairing these front coilovers with ICON rear 2.0 Aluminum Series rear shocks, which are sold separately.

What is the lift range, and is it adjustable after installation?

The coilover collar adjusts ride height across a 0–3-inch range. Adjustment is made on the vehicle by turning the collar; no spring swap is required. Stated lift heights are based on a stock-equipped Tacoma.

What is the largest tire that fits without fender modification?

ICON's application data for this coilover kit lists 33×11.50" as the recommended maximum tire size without fender trimming or body modifications. Larger tires may physically fit but will require fender trimming and additional modifications.

Can the shocks be rebuilt, or do they need to be replaced when worn?

The V.S. 2.5 Series shocks in this kit are fully serviceable, meaning they can be disassembled and rebuilt rather than replaced outright when the damping fluid or seals reach the end of their service life.

Is a heavier spring available for a Tacoma carrying extra gear or accessories?

A 700 lb/in expedition coil spring is available separately for heavier-equipped Tacomas. The standard coil springs included in this kit are engineered for a stock-equipped vehicle; the expedition spring is the recommended upgrade for builds carrying significant added weight.
