The ICON V.S. 2.5 Series Remote Reservoir Coilover Kit with CDCV is a front suspension upgrade for 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD and Prerunner models, offering 0–3 inches of lift height adjustability and vehicle-specific valving tuned for both street and off-road use. The kit fits 4WD and Prerunner configurations only; it will not fit a 2WD Tacoma with 5 wheel lug studs.

Larger Shock Body, Better Damping

The 2.5-inch shock body delivers increased piston area compared to stock components, which translates directly to stronger damping force across a wider range of terrain. Whether the road surface changes from pavement to washboard to loose rock, the larger piston area gives the shock more fluid to work with, so the suspension responds more consistently rather than hunting for control. The corrosion-resistant CAD-plated shock body and 7/8-inch induction-hardened, chrome-plated shaft are built to hold up to repeated exposure to mud, water, and abrasive debris without degrading damping performance over time.

Remote Reservoir Keeps Temperatures in Check

Extended off-road use (long desert runs, repeated rock-crawling sections, back-to-back trail days) generates heat inside a shock body that degrades damping consistency. The remote reservoir increases total fluid volume, giving heat more mass to dissipate into and extending the period of consistent damping before fade sets in. For a Tacoma used hard on multi-day overland routes or high-speed desert terrain, the reservoir is the difference between a shock that performs the same at mile one and mile one hundred and one that softens as it heats up.

Ten Settings of External Compression Adjustment via CDCV

ICON's Compression Damping Control Valve gives the driver ten externally adjustable compression damping settings without removing the shock from the vehicle. Turning the CDCV restricts or opens fluid flow under compression, letting the driver dial in a softer, more compliant tune for street driving or a firmer, more controlled tune for high-speed off-road use, with no tools beyond what fits in a trail kit. FK rod end bearings at the mounting points reduce deflection and extend service life compared to rubber bushings. All components are 100% bolt-on; no cutting or welding is required for installation.

Features

  • 0–3" lift adjustability: height-adjustable coilover design accommodates a range of lift heights for larger wheel and tire fitments
  • 2.5" shock body with remote reservoir: increased piston area and external fluid volume for improved damping and cooler operating temperatures
  • CDCV with 10 compression settings: externally adjustable compression damping without removing the shock
  • Vehicle-specific valving: tuned for the 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD/Prerunner front suspension geometry
  • 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum CNC components: machined from billet aluminum for strength and corrosion resistance
  • FK rod end bearings: extended longevity and minimal deflection at mounting points
  • 100% bolt-on installation: no cutting or welding required

Application notes from ICON: A 700 lb/in expedition coil spring is available separately for heavier-equipped vehicles (Application Note #47). Coilover heights listed are for a stock-equipped vehicle (Application Note #55). A bump stop spacer kit is available separately to increase threads beyond the maximum recommendation (Application Note #111). This kit will not fit a 2WD Tacoma with 5 wheel lug studs (Application Note #185).

Recommended aftermarket wheel fitments (ICON Alloys): 17x8.5 with 4.75 in backspace / 0mm offset; 18x9 with 5.00 in backspace / 0mm offset; 20x9 with 5.00 in backspace / 0mm offset. Recommended aftermarket tire size: 33x11.50 in (larger tires may fit but fender trimming and modifications will be required).

Who This Is For and Isn't

This coilover kit suits 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD and Prerunner owners who want 0–3 inches of front lift, improved damping over stock, and the ability to tune compression damping externally for varying terrain, from daily street driving to high-speed desert running to technical rock crawling.

This kit does not fit 2WD Toyota Tacoma models with 5 wheel lug studs. It covers the front suspension only; rear shocks are sold separately. The 700 lb/in expedition coil spring and bump stop spacer kit are also sold separately and are not included.

Common Questions

Will this coilover kit fit my 2WD Toyota Tacoma?

The ICON V.S. 2.5 Series Coilover Kit with CDCV (SKU 58710C) does not fit a 2WD Toyota Tacoma with 5 wheel lug studs. The kit is designed for 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD and Prerunner configurations only.

How much lift does this kit provide?

The coilover design is height-adjustable and supports 0–3 inches of front lift. ICON notes that the coilover heights listed are based on a stock-equipped vehicle; a heavier build may sit differently, and a 700 lb/in expedition coil spring is available separately for heavier-equipped Tacomas.

What does the CDCV do and how is it adjusted?

The Compression Damping Control Valve on this coilover kit controls fluid flow under compression and offers 10 externally adjustable settings. Adjustments are made without removing the shock from the vehicle, allowing the driver to tune compression damping for street, crawling, or high-speed desert use.

Does this kit require cutting or welding to install?

No. The ICON V.S. 2.5 Series Coilover Kit is 100% bolt-on for the 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD and Prerunner. No cutting or welding is required. An installation guide is available from ICON.

What is included in the kit, and what is sold separately?

The kit includes the front coilover shocks with remote reservoirs, CDCV, ICON-engineered coil springs, and FK rod end bearings. Rear shocks, the 700 lb/in expedition coil spring, bump stop spacer kit, and spanner wrenches are sold separately.
