Couldn't load pickup availability
The ICON V.S. 2.5 Series Front Coilover Kit is a vehicle-specific front suspension upgrade for the 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD and Prerunner, delivering 0–3 inches of lift height adjustability, a 2.5-inch shock body, an integrated remote reservoir, and ICON's Compression Damping Control Valve (CDCV) system in a fully bolt-on package. The 700 lbs/in spring rate suits stock-equipped vehicles; a 700 lb/in Expedition coil is available separately for heavier-equipped builds. This kit fits the 4WD and Prerunner variants only. It will not fit the 2WD Tacoma with five wheel lug studs.

More Wheel Travel, Tuned for the Terrain
The extended-travel design of the ICON V.S. 2.5 Series coilovers increases front wheel travel beyond stock, giving the Tacoma's suspension more room to work over rocks, ruts, and rough desert terrain. That additional travel translates directly into better axle articulation and improved body control when the trail gets technical. Because the extended travel exceeds the range of the factory upper control arm, aftermarket front upper control arms are required and must be sourced separately before installation.
Remote Reservoir and CDCV Damping Control
The remote reservoir increases fluid volume and dissipates heat during sustained hard use, maintaining consistent damping performance over longer off-road stints where a standard shock would begin to fade. ICON's Compression Damping Control Valve (CDCV) provides 10 externally adjustable compression settings. Settings are changed without disassembly, allowing the driver to tune the shock for street driving, slow technical crawling, or high-speed off-road use. Vehicle-specific valving was developed for the Tacoma's weight and geometry rather than adapted from a universal calibration.
Construction Built for Longevity
The shock body is CAD-plated for corrosion resistance and machined from 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum. The 7/8-inch shaft is induction-hardened and chrome-plated to resist wear and bending loads. FK rod end bearings at the mounting points reduce deflection and extend service life compared to rubber bushings. The shocks are fully serviceable. Installation requires no cutting or welding.
Features
- 2.5-inch shock body: larger piston area improves damping capacity over stock
- 0–3 inch lift adjustability: height set via coilover collar for wheel and tire clearance
- Remote reservoir: increases fluid volume and reduces heat buildup during extended off-road use
- CDCV with 10 compression settings: external adjustment without disassembly
- 700 lbs/in ICON-engineered coil spring: rated for stock-equipped vehicles
- 6061 aluminum CNC components: CAD-plated body, induction-hardened chrome-plated shaft, FK rod end bearings

Who This Is For and Isn't
This coilover kit suits 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD and Prerunner owners who want increased front wheel travel, 0–3 inches of lift for larger wheel and tire fitments, and externally adjustable compression damping for mixed street and off-road use. It is compatible with OEM wheels and tires and with the recommended ICON Alloys aftermarket wheel sizes listed above.
This kit will not fit the 2WD Toyota Tacoma with five wheel lug studs. Because of the extended travel design, aftermarket front upper control arms are required and are not included in this kit. The 700 lbs/in spring rate is calibrated for a stock-equipped vehicle; heavily loaded or accessorized builds should consider the separately available 700 lb/in Expedition coil. Rear shocks are not included.
Common Questions
Do I need new upper control arms to install this kit?
Yes. The ICON V.S. 2.5 Series front coilover kit uses an extended-travel design that exceeds the range of the factory upper control arm. Aftermarket front upper control arms are required for installation and must be purchased separately. ICON offers compatible billet and tubular upper control arm kits for the 1996–2004 Tacoma and 1996–2002 4Runner.
Will this kit fit my 2WD Tacoma?
No. The ICON V.S. 2.5 Series front coilover kit (SKU 58715C) does not fit the 2WD Toyota Tacoma with five wheel lug studs. It is designed specifically for the 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD and Prerunner variants only.
How much lift does this coilover kit provide?
The ICON V.S. 2.5 Series front coilover kit provides 0–3 inches of lift height adjustability via the coilover collar. Coilover heights indicated are for a stock-equipped vehicle. A bump stop spacer kit is available separately to increase threads showing beyond the maximum recommendation.
What compression damping adjustment does this kit offer?
The kit includes ICON's Compression Damping Control Valve (CDCV), which provides 10 settings of external compression damping adjustment. Settings are changed externally without disassembly, allowing the driver to tune the shock for street driving, slow technical crawling, or high-speed off-road use.
Is the 700 lbs/in spring rate right for a heavily loaded Tacoma?
The 700 lbs/in spring rate included with this ICON coilover kit is calibrated for a stock-equipped vehicle. For Tacomas carrying heavier loads or significant accessory weight, a 700 lb/in Expedition coil is available separately as an upgrade.
Are the shocks serviceable?
Yes. The ICON V.S. 2.5 Series coilovers are fully serviceable. The shock body is CAD-plated for corrosion resistance, and the 7/8-inch shaft is induction-hardened and chrome-plated. FK rod end bearings are used at the mounting points for extended longevity.
