The ICON Stage 4 Suspension System is a complete front-and-rear upgrade for the 1996–2002 Toyota 4Runner (3rd Gen), pairing 2.5 VS Series Extended Travel Remote Reservoir front coilovers with 2.5 Aluminum Series Remote Reservoir rear shocks, a billet aluminum upper control arm kit with ICON's patented Delta Joint, and ICON-engineered rear coil springs that add 1" of rear lift. Front lift height is adjustable from 0–3" over stock via the coilover collars.

Shipping: ICON parts ship direct from ICON Vehicle Dynamics, mostly by UPS Ground. Lead times vary by part and some items are built to order, so please allow extra time. We email tracking as soon as your order ships.

Tuned for the 3rd Gen Platform

ICON's vehicle-specific shock valving means the damping characteristics of both the front coilovers and rear shocks are calibrated for the actual sprung and unsprung weight of the 1996–2002 4Runner, not a generic truck platform. That specificity translates to predictable, controlled body motion on-road and improved wheel tracking on rough terrain, where a mismatched valving curve causes the vehicle to feel unsettled. FK Rod End bearings and CNC-machined 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum components reduce deflection and flex in the suspension linkage, keeping the geometry where it was designed to be under load.

Corrected Geometry Through the Full Travel Range

The billet aluminum upper control arm kit restores and improves front-end geometry when the suspension is lifted, adding on-vehicle camber and caster adjustment that the factory arms do not provide. Replacing the OE ball joint with the ICON Delta Joint allows full bump and droop travel without bind. The Delta Joint combines a zinc-plated housing and grease seal for corrosion resistance with a greaseable, metal-on-metal design that outlasts a standard uniball in daily-driven conditions while offering greater angularity than a conventional ball joint.

Fully Serviceable Components

Every shock absorber in this system can be rebuilt or re-valved after extended use, which matters for a vehicle that sees regular off-road duty. CAD-plated coilover shock bodies with 7/8" shafts resist corrosion, and the 2.5 Aluminum Series rear shocks use one-piece impact-extruded aluminum cylinders for consistent finish and long-term durability. Serviceability also means the valving can be adjusted for a heavier build. A 700 lb/in expedition coil spring is available separately for more heavily equipped vehicles.

Features

Who This Is For and Isn't

This system suits 1996–2002 Toyota 4Runner owners who want a complete, matched front-and-rear suspension upgrade with 0–3" of adjustable front lift and corrected geometry for overlanding, off-road use, or daily driving on larger tires up to 33" x 11.25" without fender modification.

This system requires aftermarket upper control arms and is not designed for use with OE upper control arms. Remote reservoir mounting brackets may interfere with aftermarket bumper mounts or windshield washer bottles. Tires larger than 33" x 11.25" may require fender trimming and additional modifications. A 700 lb/in expedition coil spring for heavier-equipped vehicles is available separately and is not included. This product carries a California Proposition 65 warning for chemicals known to cause cancer, birth anomalies, or other reproductive harm.

Common Questions

Does this system fit all 1996–2002 Toyota 4Runner trims?

The ICON Stage 4 system is fitment-confirmed for 1996–2002 Toyota 4Runner models as a platform. This Stage 4 system must be used with aftermarket upper control arms; the included billet UCA kit satisfies that requirement.

What lift height does this system provide?

The front coilovers in this Stage 4 system are adjustable from 0–3" of lift over stock on a stock-equipped vehicle. The included ICON-engineered rear coil springs provide 1" of rear lift. Coilover height figures are based on a stock-equipped vehicle; a heavily loaded or modified build may see different ride heights.

Will OEM wheels and tires still fit after installation?

OEM wheels and tires are confirmed to fit with this Stage 4 system installed. For aftermarket fitments, tires up to 33" x 11.25" fit without modification; larger tires may fit but will require fender trimming and additional modifications.

Are the shocks rebuildable?

All shock absorbers in this Stage 4 system are fully serviceable and can be rebuilt or re-valved after extended use. This allows the damping to be adjusted for a different vehicle setup or restored after high-mileage off-road use without replacing the entire unit.

What is the Delta Joint and why does it replace the OE ball joint?

The ICON Delta Joint is a patented high-angle ball joint used in the billet aluminum upper control arms included with this system. It allows full bump and droop travel without bind, offers greater angularity than a conventional ball joint, and uses a zinc-plated housing with a grease seal and greaseable metal-on-metal construction for corrosion resistance and long service life in daily-driven conditions.
