The ICON Stage 3 Suspension System is a complete front-and-rear suspension upgrade for 1996–2002 Toyota 4Runner (3rd Gen) trucks, delivering 0–3" of adjustable front lift via 2.5 VS Series Extended Travel Remote Reservoir Coilovers paired with billet aluminum upper control arms, ICON's patented Delta Joint, 2.0 VS Series rear shocks, and ICON-engineered 1" rear coil springs. All four shock absorbers are fully rebuildable and re-valveable. This system is designed for use with aftermarket upper control arms only (Application Note #18).

Shipping: ICON parts ship direct from ICON Vehicle Dynamics, mostly by UPS Ground. Lead times vary by part and some items are built to order, so please allow extra time. We email tracking as soon as your order ships.

Corrected Geometry Where It Counts

The billet 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum upper control arms replace the OE units and restore corrected front-end geometry across the 0–3" lift range. On-vehicle camber and caster are adjustable, so alignment can be dialed in after the lift rather than accepted as a compromise. The ICON Delta Joint replaces the OE ball joint with a greaseable, zinc-plated, metal-on-metal design that allows full bump and droop travel without bind, a meaningful advantage on a daily-driven truck that also sees trail use.

Vehicle-Specific Valving, Front and Rear

The 2.5 VS Series coilovers use vehicle-specific shock valving, FK Rod End bearings, and a CAD-plated shock body with a 7/8" shaft. The remote reservoir extends oil capacity for sustained off-road use. The 2.0 VS Series rear shocks carry the same vehicle-specific tuning philosophy, and the ICON-engineered rear coil springs add 1" of rear lift while improving rear suspension performance over stock. Because every shock in the system is fully serviceable, ride quality can be re-valved later as the build evolves.

Fits OEM Wheels and Tires, with Room to Grow

OEM wheels and tires fit this system. Recommended aftermarket wheel sizes are ICON Alloys 17x8.5" with 4.75" backspace / 0mm offset, 18x9" with 5.00" backspace / 0mm offset, and 20x9" with 5.00" backspace / 0mm offset. Tires up to 33x11.25" are confirmed to fit; larger tires may require fender trimming and modifications.

Coilover heights indicated are for a stock-equipped vehicle (Application Note #55). A 700 lb/in Expedition coil is available separately for heavier-equipped vehicles (Application Note #47). A bump stop spacer kit is available separately to increase threads showing beyond the maximum recommendation (Application Note #111). Remote reservoir mounting brackets may interfere with aftermarket bumper mounts and windshield washer bottles (Application Note #35).

Who This Is For and Isn't

This system suits 1996–2002 Toyota 4Runner owners who want a complete, matched front-and-rear suspension upgrade with 0–3" of adjustable front lift, corrected geometry, and fully serviceable shocks for daily driving and off-road use.

This system requires aftermarket upper control arms and is not designed for use with OEM upper control arms (Application Note #18). Coilover heights are calibrated for a stock-equipped vehicle; heavily accessorized builds may need the separately available 700 lb/in Expedition coil. Remote reservoir brackets may conflict with certain aftermarket bumper mounts and windshield washer bottle locations.

Common Questions

Does this system work with OEM wheels and tires?

Yes, the ICON Stage 3 system for the 1996–2002 Toyota 4Runner is confirmed compatible with OEM wheels and tires. Recommended aftermarket sizes are 17x8.5", 18x9", and 20x9" ICON Alloys wheels with specific backspace and offset figures. Tires up to 33x11.25" fit without modification; larger tires may require fender trimming.

Are the shocks rebuildable?

All shocks included in the ICON Stage 3 system are fully rebuildable and re-valveable. This means the front 2.5 VS Series coilovers and the rear 2.0 VS Series shocks can be serviced or re-valved over time to match changes in the vehicle's build or intended use.

What is the Delta Joint and why does it replace the OE ball joint?

The ICON Delta Joint is a greaseable, high-angle ball joint with a zinc-plated housing and a tough grease seal. It replaces the OE ball joint in the billet aluminum upper control arms, allowing full bump and droop travel without bind while resisting corrosion and noise. The design combines the angularity of a uniball with the durability of a conventional ball joint.

Can this system be used with a heavily accessorized or expedition-loaded 4Runner?

The ICON Stage 3 coilover heights are calibrated for a stock-equipped 1996–2002 Toyota 4Runner. For heavier-equipped vehicles, a 700 lb/in Expedition coil is available separately. Buyers running significant added weight should factor this into their component selection before ordering.
