The ICON Vehicle Dynamics S2 Stage 1 Secondary Shock Kit adds a secondary shock to an existing ICON coilover setup on 2003–2009 Toyota 4Runners, 2007–2009 Toyota FJ Cruisers, and 2005–2015 Toyota Tacomas, effectively doubling the suspension's damping capacity for rougher terrain and larger off-road obstacles. The kit includes three components: an LCA skid plate kit, a fabricated shock hoop kit, and a Toyota S2 Secondary 2.5 VS RR shock pair, all under a single SKU covering all three vehicle applications.

Shipping: ICON parts ship direct from ICON Vehicle Dynamics, mostly by UPS Ground. Lead times vary by part and some items are built to order, so please allow extra time. We email tracking as soon as your order ships.

Double the Damping Without a Long-Travel Rebuild

Adding a second shock alongside an existing ICON coilover increases oil volume and damping force, which means the suspension can absorb larger hits and sustain that control over repeated impacts rather than fading. The S2 approach achieves this without the complexity or cost of a full long-travel conversion, making it a practical step-up for owners who have already invested in an ICON coilover foundation and want more capability from the same platform.

Factory Arms, Factory Track Width

The S2 kit works with the factory lower control arms and preserves OE track width, so wheel fitment and vehicle geometry stay predictable. The billet aluminum shock tower adapters, fabricated shock hoops, and steel skid plates with integrated shock mounts are engineered to bolt into place without frame modification or alteration of other factory suspension components. All components are fully removable, which means the kit can be transferred to another vehicle if needed.

Skid Plates That Work Independently

The steel skid plates included in this kit can be installed on their own, separate from the secondary shock components. Standalone installation protects the factory lower control arms from trail damage without requiring the full S2 shock setup, giving owners a modular path to build capability in stages.

Features

  • Secondary shock mounting: adds a 2.5 VS RR shock alongside an existing ICON coilover to double damping capacity
  • Billet aluminum shock tower adapters: vehicle-specific hardware for a precise, bolt-on fit
  • Fabricated shock hoops: included mounting structure for the secondary shock position
  • Steel skid plates with integrated shock mounts: protect factory lower control arms and serve as the secondary shock lower mount
  • Fully rebuildable and revalveable shocks: serviceable after use rather than replaced as a unit
  • 100% removable design: all components can be uninstalled and transferred to another compatible vehicle

Who This Is For and Isn't

This kit suits 2003–2009 Toyota 4Runner, 2007–2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser, and 2005–2015 Toyota Tacoma owners who already run an ICON coilover setup and want to increase damping capacity for more demanding off-road terrain without converting to a full long-travel system. OEM wheels and tires are compatible, and the modular design supports a staged build approach.

This kit is not compatible with the TRD Big Brake Kit and is not recommended for use with a remote reservoir coilover. It requires welding at the lower control arm during installation and is a stand-alone kit not intended for use alongside other aftermarket suspension kits. Maximum steering angle is reduced as a result of secondary shock placement. It does not work with KDSS-equipped vehicles.

Common Questions

Does this kit work without an existing ICON coilover installed?

No. The ICON S2 Stage 1 Secondary Shock Kit is designed to add a secondary shock to an existing ICON coilover setup. It is not a standalone suspension system and is not intended for use with other aftermarket suspension kits or in place of a primary coilover.

Is welding required to install this kit?

Yes. Installation of the ICON S2 Secondary Shock Kit requires welding at the lower control arm. The shock hoops, skid plates, and shock tower adapters are otherwise mostly bolt-on, but the lower control arm weld is a required step and should be performed by a qualified fabricator.

Can the skid plates be installed without the secondary shocks?

Yes. The steel skid plates included in the S2 kit can be installed independently of the secondary shock components. Standalone skid plate installation protects the factory lower control arms from trail damage and is a supported use of the kit's modular design.

Will this kit affect steering angle or track width?

The S2 Secondary Shock Kit maintains OE track width and uses the factory lower control arms, so track width is unchanged. However, maximum steering angle is reduced as a result of the secondary shock placement, which is a known and stated limitation of the system.

Are the shocks serviceable after use?

Yes. The 2.5 VS RR shocks included in the ICON S2 Stage 1 kit are fully rebuildable and revalveable, meaning they can be serviced and retuned after extended use rather than replaced as a complete unit.
