The C4 Fabrication 4Runner Rock Sliders are DOM steel side protection for the 2010–2013 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition (5th Gen), built from .120-wall DOM tube with .188-thick frame mounting plates and gussets. The bolt-on design requires only minor drilling and no welding. Four variants cover KDSS-equipped and non-KDSS trucks in raw steel or powder coat finish.

DOM Construction Built to Take a Hit

The C4 Fabrication rock sliders use DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) tubing with a .120-inch wall thickness throughout every tube section. DOM tubing is cold-drawn to tighter dimensional tolerances than standard ERW tube, which means consistent wall thickness around the full circumference and better resistance to denting when a rock contacts the slider at an angle. The frame mounting plates and gussets step up to .188-inch thickness, keeping the attachment points rigid under the lateral loads that occur when the slider bears the vehicle's weight on a ledge or shelf rock.

Geometry That Prevents Getting Hung Up

The outer round tube is angled upward at 25 degrees while the step plates remain level to the ground, a geometry that deflects rocks downward rather than catching on them. The main slider support legs are welded in at a 45-degree rotation, presenting a corner rather than a flat face to an obstacle. A corner-forward orientation reduces the surface area that can snag on a sharp edge and helps the truck slide over rather than pivot on the rock. These are design decisions that matter on technical terrain where a hung slider can stop forward progress entirely.

Removable Step Plates That Work in the Field

The dimple-died step plates provide traction underfoot when stepping up into the cab, and the die pattern clears mud and snow as the truck moves rather than packing in. The step plates are removable, which serves two practical purposes: they can be taken off before painting or powder coating so the slider body and the plates are finished separately, and they allow for different coating options on the same slider body. Zinc-plated Torx pan-head 10-24 self-threading screws secure the plates. Welded-on step plates are not offered.

Features

  • DOM tube, .120-inch wall: consistent wall thickness and dent resistance across all tube sections
  • Frame plates and gussets at .188 inch: heavier-gauge steel at every frame attachment point
  • 25-degree outer tube slope with level step plates: deflects rocks downward while keeping the step surface flat
  • 45-degree support leg rotation: corner-forward orientation reduces hang-up on sharp rock edges
  • Dimple-died removable step plates: traction underfoot, self-clearing in mud and snow, removable for coating
  • Grade 10.9 mounting hardware included: all fasteners for frame attachment ship with the sliders

Who This Is For and Isn't

These rock sliders are designed for owners of 2010–2013 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition trucks who run technical terrain and want bolt-on frame-mounted side protection with a functional step. The KDSS variant accommodates trucks equipped with Toyota's Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System; the non-KDSS variant is for trucks without it.

These sliders do not fit non-Trail Edition 5th Gen 4Runners, any 4Runner outside the 2010–2013 model years, or any other vehicle. Raw-finish sliders ship as bare steel and must be painted or powder coated before installation to prevent rust; they are not ready to install as delivered. Welded-on step plates are not available on any variant.

Common Questions

Do these rock sliders fit all 5th Gen 4Runners?

No. The C4 Fabrication 5th Gen 4Runner rock sliders fit the Trail Edition trim only within the 2010–2013 model years. They do not fit SR5, Limited, or other non-Trail Edition 5th Gen 4Runners, and they are not designed for 4Runners outside the 2010–2013 range.

What is the KDSS option and how do I know if I need it?

KDSS stands for Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, a factory Toyota option on certain Trail Edition 4Runners. If your 4Runner has KDSS, select the KDSS variant; if it does not, select Non-KDSS. Choosing the wrong variant will result in a fitment conflict with the suspension components. Check your build sheet or the sticker in the driver's door jamb if you are unsure.

Does the raw-finish option arrive ready to install?

Raw-finish 4Runner rock sliders ship as bare steel and are not ready to install as delivered. They must be painted or powder coated before installation to prevent rust. C4 Fabrication recommends test-fitting the sliders before applying any coating to confirm alignment and fitment first.

Is welding required to install these sliders?

No welding is required. The C4 Fabrication 4Runner rock sliders use a bolt-on design that requires only minor drilling. All grade 10.9 frame mounting hardware is included with the purchase.

Can the step plates be removed or replaced?

Yes. The dimple-died step plates on these rock sliders are removable, secured by zinc-plated Torx pan-head 10-24 self-threading screws. Removing the plates before coating allows the slider body and plates to be finished separately. Welded-on step plates are not available as an option.
