sea-to-summit-mosquito-head-net-insect-shield
Sea to Summit Mosquito Head Net Insect Shield

The Sea to Summit Mosquito Head Net Insect Shield is a one-size, packable head net built for campers, hikers, and overlanders who need reliable mosquito protection in bug-heavy environments. Black multifilament polyester mesh with 500 holes per square inch balances fine coverage with genuine airflow, and the elasticized drawcord closure fits comfortably over a hat or bare head. The net packs into its own included stuff sack and weighs 51 g.

Black Mesh, Better Visibility

Most head nets use white or olive mesh, which creates a tinted veil across your field of view. The Mosquito Head Net uses black mesh, which recedes visually and lets you read a map, navigate terrain, or spot wildlife without the colour cast that lighter mesh introduces. When bugs are thick enough to warrant a head net, clear visibility still matters. The black mesh makes that possible without sacrificing coverage.

Packable Enough to Always Carry

At 51 g and packed into its own stuff sack, the Mosquito Head Net takes up almost no space in a pack pocket or hip-belt pouch. Because it has no stiffener ring, it compresses flat and adds negligible bulk. Wearing it over a hat keeps the mesh off your face and provides the clearance a ring would otherwise create. The soft multifilament polyester is comfortable against skin during the moments the hat isn't available.

Features

Black hexagonal mesh: 500 holes per square inch for mosquito protection with better visibility than white or olive mesh

Soft multifilament polyester: comfortable against the face during extended wear

Elasticized drawcord with barrel lock: adjustable closure fits over a hat or bare head

No stiffener ring: keeps packed size and weight minimal; wear over a hat for face clearance

Included stuff sack: packs into its own compact pouch

Permethrin-compatible: polyester mesh, drawcord, and barrel lock are not damaged by permethrin spray treatment

Specifications

Specification

Detail

Weight

51 g

Mesh

500 holes per square inch

Material

Soft multifilament polyester

Mesh color

Black

Closure

Elasticized drawcord with barrel lock

Packed

Included stuff sack

Size

One Size

Who This Is For and Isn't

The Mosquito Head Net suits campers, backpackers, hunters, and overlanders who encounter mosquitos and most common biting insects in warm-climate or shoulder-season conditions, and who want a minimal, packable net they can keep on hand without dedicating meaningful space or weight to it.

This net is not rated for no-see-ums, sandflies, or midges, which require a finer mesh than 500 holes per square inch. Omitting the ring keeps the net light and compact. Wearing it over a hat creates the clearance between the mesh and your face that a ring would otherwise provide.

Can this head net be treated with permethrin spray?

Yes. The polyester mesh, drawcord, and barrel lock on the Mosquito Head Net are not damaged by permethrin spray treatment, so the net can be treated for additional insect-repelling protection if desired.

Does this head net protect against no-see-ums?

No. The Mosquito Head Net's 500-holes-per-square-inch mesh is effective against mosquitos and most common biting insects, but no-see-ums, sandflies, and midges require a finer mesh. Sea to Summit makes a separate ultra-fine mesh head net for those conditions.
